When to charge
After commitment, before the admin pain peaks.
Don’t paywall sign-up. Let organisers create the hen, invite people and run a vote first. Then show Plus at the moment it solves a real problem: “3 people still owe £72 — unlock automatic reminders.”
Longer-term revenue
Once Brood has planning intent, affiliate bookings and supplier commission can sit beside the one-off organiser fee — accommodation, activities, transport, restaurants and other hen-relevant purchases.
Keep recommendations useful and contextual. Don’t turn the planning tool into an ad marketplace.
Why not charge every guest?+
Because every extra payer adds friction. The organiser feels the pain most strongly and gets the biggest operational value from Brood.
Why not a monthly subscription?+
A one-off event has a natural end. A one-off upgrade is easier to understand and feels fairer for this use case.
Should Brood charge on the money guests pay?+
Not in the first MVP. Start by tracking balances without holding funds. Direct money movement can add payment, refund and regulatory complexity that isn’t needed to validate the core planning product.
